Surya - The Sun God

Surya is one of the most important Vedic Gods. Surya means “the Supreme Light”.

The term Surya also refers to the Sun, in general. Surya has golden hair and arms. He is extremely bright and radiant. The Sun God is always travelling in a Golden triumphal chariot harnessed by seven horses (are represented as Seven colors of the light) and his Charioteer’s name is Arun.

In Vedism, Surya is known as the visible form of God known as ‘Pratyaksha Daiva’ as every one can see Him every day. He is also known as ‘Sarva Jagat Sarva Sakshi’ – which means that He is the eternal eye witnessing all the things happening in the entire world. He is aware of every thing that happens in the world and none can escape from His gaze. Furthermore, Surya is also considered as form of Vishnu, and hence is also called Surya Narayana. He is also considered as and known as ‘Daiva Choodamani’ (Means a Jewel among Gods) as he is also the benevolent giver and sustainer of Life, Light and Warmth. It is because of His grace and generosity that the world has light and warmth, which are two essential necessities of life sustenance. Lord Surya is also extremely knowledgeable and very wise scholar.

Lord Surya is tawny in spring; during summer he resembles gold, he is white during rainy season; he is pale, grey during autumn; he is copper-coloured in early winter; he is red during late winter. Thus the colours of sun-god caused by the seasons have been recounted. The Sun-god is the dispeller of darkness. He is the deity of great brilliance and is considered the Supreme Soul. Lord Surya is also the cause who brings about the change of seasons in the universe and it is also the sun-god which acts as the pivot of the entire universe.

The Sun gives life force, the power of will, intellect, brilliance, prosperity, success in worldly affairs, wealth, personal conduct, activity, cheerfulness, good fortune, wisdom, ambition, fame, the understanding of the phenomenal world, and the knowledge of medicine.

Surya, The Sun God is essentially prayed for Health, Wealth and Prosperity.

Be Like a Flower Calendar

Be Like a Flower

A flower is open to all that surrounds it: Nature, light, the rays of the sun, the wind, etc.

It is frank: it hides nothing of its beauty, and lets it flow frankly out of itself.

What is within, what is in its depths, it lets it come out so that everyone can see it.

It is equal: it has no preference. Everyone can enjoy its beauty and its perfume, without rivalry. It is equal and the same for everybody. There is no difference, or anything whatsoever.

Then generous: without reserve or restriction, how it gives the mysterious beauty and the very own perfume of Nature. It sacrifices itself entirely for our pleasure, even its life it sacrifices to express this beauty and the secret of the things gathered within itself.

And then, kind: it has such tenderness, it is so sweet, so close to us, so loving.

Its presence fills us with joy. It is always cheerful and happy.

Cosmic Powers Calendar

A tribute to the Power of the Goddess.

The Goddess represents what is hidden, secret, subtle and sensitive, what has to be searched and discovered. As the Word, she represents both the teaching and its comprehension. She is the inner guiding power. The true worship of the Goddess involves knowledge, which is her real form. It is not merely an outer worship, but an inner worship which is meditation. The Goddess takes us beyond the realm of the known and the domain of time-space into the secrets of eternity-infinity.

S. Sankaranarayanan says
“Such is the power of the form-pattern which manifests the embodied deity, that it is called yantra. Yantra is an instrument, a machine, a store house of power. Rather it contains in itself a controlled form of the uncontrollable power of the deity.”

This calendar features the Yantras of the Wisdom Goddesses.

Matangi

The Goddess Matangi is the power that has entered into thought or the mind. She is the word as the embodiment of thought. She also relates to the ability to listen, which is the origin of true understanding that forms powerful thoughts. Matangi bestows knowledge, talent and expertise. She is the Goddess of the spoken word and of any outward articulation of inner knowledge, including all forms of art, music and dance.

Matangi represents the teachings of the Guru and the tradition. She represents the continuity of spiritual instruction in the world. By honouring her, we also honour the guru. Those seeking to teach others, particularly to communicate to the masses of people, should seek the grace of Matangi.

Matangi is related to Lord Ganesha and, on one level, is his consort. Like Ganesha, she can be propitiated to remove obstacles and give accomplishments, as well as to grant knowledge

Kamalatmika

Kamlatmika is one whose nature is of the lotus. Kamala is Lakshmi, the Goddess of wealth, beauty, fertility, love and devotion. Lakshmi is the great Mother in her role of fulfilling all desires. She represents the water of fulfilment, the flowering of Divine Grace and Love.

Kamala, governs the outer form of beauty, not merely as pleasure but as the unfolding of the Divine nature into the realms of action and creation. Kamala causes us to create forms in the outer world. Kamala nourishes and supports whatever we truly aspire to do. She aids in all projects and ever seeks to promote their fulfilment, allowing layer upon layer of Divine Grace to come forth in various degrees of wonder. She can be propitiated both for ordinary worldly goals and for spiritual realisation. But the ordinary goals we seek through her – wealth, progeny, or success – should be part of seeking Divine fulfilment in life, an unfoldment of our soul’s desires through an organic process of evolution.

We should seek the total unfoldment of ourselves and of the universe and not merely content ourselves with transient goals. This is the real worship of Kamala which puts an end to all outer seeking.

Kamala also relates to the beauty of perception whereby we see the Divine quality in each thing. Part of the worship of Kamala is to unfold the full powers of inner perception in order to see the extraordinary beauty in the simple presence of nature and the earth.
